1. Background Information
Hong Kong Adventist Academy (HKAA) is a private Christian school located at Clear Water Bay Road, Sai Kung, the former campus of Sam Yuk Middle School. Due to insufficient students, the former middle school stopped its operation in 2008 and the school founder established a new school, HKAA in 2009 with the Secondary Section operated firstly.
Due to the demand of an international primary school in Sai Kung district, HKAA started its Primary Section in 2011 for accepting children starting at age 5 years and 8 months. The Primary Section was originally a church school that operated by the teachers and staff of the former middle school and the College Division. Now, it has students and teachers from around the world offering an international learning environment. It school's philosophy is to prepare students not only academically but also spiritually, mentally, socially and physically.
HKAA follows the Hong Kong curriculum with an international teaching style. Class sizes in the Primary Section is in an average of less than 20 students, and the primary level classrooms have both a classroom teacher and a teacher assistant that ensures a very high degree of focus on the students’ academic needs and self-development. The teacher assistant could speak both English and Chinese to solve the students’ communication problem.
Subjects taught at the Primary Section include English, Mathematics, Chinese, General Studies, Science, Computer Studies, Religious Education, Physical Education, Music and Visual Art. All subjects are taught in English by native English teachers while only the Chinese subject is taught in Mandarin.
Students are encouraged vegetarian food and pork is prohibited on campus. Due to the limited resources, the school does not provide any extra-curricular activities to students after school.
