A Psychological Disorder is also known as a mental disorder, is a chain of behavioral or psychological symptoms that change a person’s life and causes distress. There are many mental disorders in the world and the disorders affect people differently. Mental disorders affect many people and how they live their lives. A few disorders would be phobias, agoraphobia, panic and separation anxiety disorders. The disorder that was selected to be discussed was phobia disorder, According to Bourne (2011), is a persistent fear of an object or situation in which the person applies great lengths to avoid the object or situation. In the event the phobia cannot be avoided entirely the person will undergo the situation or object with marked distress and significant interference in social activities.
Everyone basically has a phobia; most just don’t know what it is, According to Bourne (2011) one of the most common phobias is Arachnophobia which is a fear of spiders. This phobia typically exists within women more than men. This phobia makes the sufferer experience major complications including, struggle focusing, excessive screaming, wild movements and extreme measures to escape the situation. Arachnophobia is a phobia that controls the behavior of the sufferer, until the person escape the situation. For example a woman could be having a conversation with a friend in her home and all of a sudden a spider is crawling on the wall. The woman with Arachnophobia see the spider, at an instant her behavior changes to survivor mode, which is by all means escape the situation. The first reaction would be problem focusing, loud screaming and then comes the wild crazy movement.
Arachnophobia causes people to feel uneasy if they are in a place that could possibly contain spiders, pertaining to young women who has spiders in their household could cause development problems with socialization. Dealing with Arachnophobia it could enable young women to not learn some of the functioning skills to become a member in their society due to the stress of the disorder.
