Ethical Dilemma Assignment
Ethical dilemma can be challenging for the person in charge. It is difficult to determine the consequences of certain action in the situation of a 28 year old administrator. In her situation they found that she had lied about her credentials on her resume, stating she had earned tow academic degrees that were false also from a University that she never had attended. The administrator had been nationally recognized and some say because her documents were falsified she should resign and others say with her experience and recognition of good service she should keep her job and is a minor affair. The following is a response to the case study utilizing a Christian World view and Robert Nash’s 9-Step ethical decision making model.
What are the central moral issues in your case dilemma?
The administrator had lied about her academic credentials and Universities attended, dishonesty and integrity are the major moral issues. A person who cheats and lies through life does not hold high goals or values to maintain their good integrity. Most people value their hard work and accomplishments and honesty as part of their good integrity so most people do not like liars or cheaters to skate through life without the hard work put forth.
What are the ethical conflicts in your case that make it an actual dilemma needing rigorous ethical analysis and resolution?
In the eyes of the Christian worldview, we must be the same person in private and in public to hold high integrity values. The Bible verse, Proverbs 10:9 “Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out” another verse from the Bible, Proverbs 11:3 “The integrity of the upright guides them but the crookedness of the treacherous destroys them”. This proves that God disproves of lying and the administrator deserves resolution based on moral grounds. The verses explain that when crooked it will eventually destroy the integrity of the person, which is the case of the administrator because it would seem she would feel guilty about lying.
Who are the major stakeholders in your case?
The stakeholders in the case the administrator, the family of the administrator, faculty members and the students and their family of the University. One person’s actions can affect many other people in the situation. The action of the administrator has a downward spiral affect from everyone one that she has come in contact with along with the other Universities that she stated that she had attended.
