OFFERING MESSAGE - 01/10/2014
According to a recent Newspaper report, Kelantan was the worst-hit state, with 14 deaths and over 200,000 people homeless.
I have a Muslim colleague, his name is Jimmy, his family and neighbours that were living in Kelantan, East Coast region of Malaysia, had been heavily affected by the recent flood disaster, which has been described on the same level as a tsunami. He said the water level of the flood was as high as 3 levels of an office building, and the rain was unusually heavy and fast flowing. The many valuable things that they kept and kept for many years, all was swept away in just one day!
Not one only but two of his family’s house was destroyed in the flood. In fact, he was telling us that one of these house have been attacked by a small flood few weeks before this big flood took place, and they were actually in the process of cleaning up and rebuilding the house, and when the big flood came like a tsunami, it swept all of it away and all that the treasures that they have tried to save, everything was gone in a split second. I can see tears flowing down as when he tells the story.
As when Jimmy continues to share with us about the flood situation in his hometown, this have really struck my soul and reminded me of what God meant by saying: “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20"But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal”, that can be found in Matthew 6:19-20.
Friends, as we enter into the 2nd week of the 2015, we still hear many people talk about New Year Resolutions, to get a better job, better career, bigger car, bigger house, earn more money. Well, don’t get me wrong, is good to have all of that, in fact is great to have it and if we have it, thank you Jesus for it!
