While some of you I have had the pleasure of working with, there are still many whom I have not had the opportunity to meet. For those of you who I have not met, I am from Maryland where I work as a research analyst for a commercial real estate information company by the name of Costar Group. Presently I do not fulfill the role as a manager, however I do have managerial experience in the retail industry. Prior to my real estate career I worked as a personal stylist for Nordstrom overseeing multiple women’s apparel departments. Working and school really takes up the majority of my time, however when I do have free time I spend it with my family and loved ones,
One thing I have noticed within the department I work is that my manager lacks motivation amongst our team. She is the sweetest person you could ever meet and is far from a micromanager. She wants us to succeed and always says team we need to get out the bottom without excuses, but no one takes her serious because they know she isn’t really going to hound them about there numbers.
One of my goals within this course is to implement a motivating technique or program that can increase performance within our department and suggest it to my manager. By March I would like to have a plan to present to my manager outlining ways to increase our performance through motivation. The goal is to not only get of the bottom 30 percent but to move to top 30. We are beginning the 1st quarter now and are presently working on market reports. These reports take up the majority of our time so my company isn’t expecting strong numbers. I figure the beginning of second quarter we will have a fresh start, which would be ideal for such techniques to begin. We have weekly metrics and daily numbers that we have access to in order to see our progress. Each week we need to analyze our performance to see if we are moving up in rank.
