What is a drug?
A drug is any chemical you take that affects the way your body works. Alcohol, cannabis, caffeine, aspirin and nicotine are all drugs. A drug must be able to pass from your body into your brain. Once inside your brain, can change the messages your brain cells are sending to each other and to the rest of your body. They do this by interfering with your brains own chemical signals; neurotransmitters that transfer signals across synapses.

Introduction
In today’s world, cannabis is commonly used by many teens and adults. Whether it is for medical reasons, socializing, obtaining a high, or escaping depression, marijuana has impacted the lives of us humans in a lively manner. Even though cannabis is an illegal drug, countless amounts of people do not stop from getting a hold of it. There is only so much the law enforcement can do if the people do not wish to listen. Although marijuana affects the natural brain functions such as memory, coordination, learning, and the ability to problem solve, allowing it to stay illegal causes no difference in the use, but inflicts on other more important issues that need to be dealt with.
For
Everyone should be made accountable for their own actions and not have to follow government regulations on the prohibition of cannabis. Also it has been proven to be less harmful than legal drugs like alcohol as it has positive aspects such as treating glaucoma and preventing epilepsy. It has proven to kill cancer cells and shrink the most serious types of tumours. Another reason for its legalisation is that it is now supported by a lot of people in Britain which means an uprising of petitions which will be seen and talked about by the government. It is known to relax the consumers, this is done by making them feel chilled out and more talkative which are good qualities for a person to have. It has been proven to have a positive effect on helping sleeping disorders which convinces people that there is not much that is bad about it.
Against
It should stay illegal in Britain because of its effects on co-ordination. If you were to drive after smoking cannabis, it would affect your sight co-ordination and there have been cases where people have died. By smoking cannabis after a long time, it can cause lung disease and/or cancer. The NHS has issued several warnings about health risks linked to cannabis use. These include dependency problems, mental health problems and lung damage. Also by legalising the drug, it will more than definitely cause addicts which will then increase the number of cases of lung disease and/or cancer. Another reason it should stay illegal is because of religious reasons and its legalisation could cause an uproar of protests and petitions which could lead to its illegalisation again.
