The European Union has its ups and downs; however, it remains a decent way to control the plethora of countries that encompasses eastern Europe. For example, the universal currency is a major bonus for the union; it allows for controllable inflation rates across the many boarders. Next, the union does very well in controlling and preventing wars. When a country is added to the union, it takes an oath to protect the other countries already members by advocating peace and democracy. Some could say that the union expresses too much support between countries. For instance, Germany has had to bail out Greece during its economic stress (a move that was forced on Germany because it is part of the union). Greece on the other hand is now having to pay Germany back by cutting jobs, increasing taxes, and cutting wages. This is a minor downfall to the union, but any government will have its flaws. The European Union also allows for free trade. This contributes to economic stability across the entire continent because it allows for easy passage of goods in and out of boarders and eliminates many of the import/export tariffs of goods. The European Union also allows for a more wide spread law enforcement. For example, if one is convicted on a serious crime in a country other than his or her own, it is easy for the country where the crime was committed to extradite the felon back to their homeland for further judgment and punishment. Finally, the European Union brings in overall stability to the economy of all members and provides a universal relationship between them.
