How Childline Helps Our Children

ChildLine is a free 24 hour counselling service for children till the age of 19 in the UK provided by the NSPCC. ChildLine deals with any issue which causes distress or concern, for example;
• child abuse
• bullying
• parental separation or divorce
• pregnancy
• substance misuse
• Mental health issues
ChildLine’s intention is to always keep calls confidential. There counsellors help the caller however big or small the situation may be. ChildLine have many ways of contact, they use lots of different methods like the internet, phone, media. For example:

ChildLine raise funds through direct donations through the NSPCC, partnerships, and events like The X Factor ChildLine Ball and through third-party fundraising organisations e.g Justgiving.

In 1986 Esther Rantzen, the presenter of That's Life!, a popular TV show, wanted the BBC to create "Childwatch", a programme about child abuse, to try to detect children at risk, the show was about the body of one toddler having been discovered after she starved to death in her own home. When viewers were asked if they would take part in the survey in an edition of That's Life!, a helpline was opened after the programme so that any child currently suffering abuse could call for help.
