Assessment Project Analysis
For this assignment I decided to go with an individual that is addicted to alcohol. This person has been an alcoholic for as long as I can remember. He does not mind telling you that he has a problem either, he knows he has a problem but chooses not to accept the help everyone has tried to give him. The assessment that I will be using during this interview is Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT). Below I will discuss the interviewee that I interviewed, the assessment used, if the assessment was useful, additional questions needed to accommodate special population, and a summary of my findings along with a treatment recommendation.
The individual that I interviewed is a 65-year-old male, he has been an alcoholic since I can remember. He knows that he has a problem, but does not want to accept any help that has been offered to him. He has lost his licenses due to a DUI. He wrecked a car not even a mile from his home, he left the sean and went home. He has also been in many different fights due to being under the influence of alcohol. This individual also has been convicted of criminal domestic violence, which he was also under the influence of alcohol. He has served time in jail for some of these crimes. The use of alcohol has become his everyday life and he does not plan on changing it anytime soon.
The assessment that I will be using in this interview of an alcoholic is Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT). “The aim of the test is to identify people with
hazardous and harmful alcohol use” (Babor & Robaina, 2016). This test includes a series of questions that works towards helping the professional gain a better understanding of the individual and their situation. The questions that are included are the following: (1) How often do you have a drink containing alcohol? (2) How many drinks containing alcohol do you have on a typical day when you are drinking? (3) How often do you have six or more drinks on one occasion? (4) how often during the last year have you found that you were not able to stop drinking once you had started? (5) How often during the last year have you failed to do what was normally expected from you because of drinking? (6) How often during the last year have you needed a first drink in the morning to get yourself going after a heavy drinking session? (7) How often during the last year have you had a feeling of guilt or remorse after drinking? (8) How often during the last year have you been unable to remember what happened the night before because you had been drinking? (9) Have you or someone else been injured as a result of your drinking? (10) Has a relative or friend or a doctor or anther health worker been concerned about your drinking or suggested you cut down?. These questions will further lead to the professional providing the individual the proper treatment options for their situation.
