Red Cross is a nonprofit organization that recognizes the challenges in cultural diversity. They except and appreciate the cultural differences such as backgrounds, thought, and experiences. It allows them to work with people across the country as well as locally delivering services that save lives. This organization chooses to be committed fully to diversity and making as well as keeping diverse, high oriented volunteers and employees who show their greatness in all the communities they serve. They keep a respectful work place that brings in empowered contributors by leveraging diverse partnerships. Red Cross has a global impact because of the efforts they use in time of crisis. The length this organization will go through can not be matched by any other organization.
The assumption that everyone in the organization is working for the same things so they will automatically communicate or think and view things the same way could prove to be a problem. Many organization and multinational companies come to realize that when its too late. When you start to mix multiple cultures, difficulties and problems will surface. It may simply be because many people aren't trained or adequate enough to deal with cultural differences effectively. This can be due to the fact that they have never had to deal with anything like it before.
New language is normally the least difficult to adapt to. When going to a different country people prepare themselves for the language differences first. More often than not the problem surfaces when choose not to try to see things from another perspective. The unwillingness to understand the way someone else may see things.
When working with cultures other than our own, it becomes easy to be influenced by stereotypes, and misconceptions. Once we have the stereotypes or misconception we tend to carry that with us into training, gatherings, and even meetings. This then causes communication almost impossible and work hard to do.
People who are from different culture tend to think they can change this or that to make accommodations to suit the other culture. Most of the changes people make aren't even the ones that are necessary or needed. They are simply the changes people assume need to be changed.
There is a solution to these problems if the multinational or global organizations would implement it. Red Cross has already claimed the solution and it has helped the company tremendously. Its called Cross Cultural Skills Training and Development. This program provides insight to cultural differences as well as providing you with the understanding of the new culture.
