The Growth of Public Relations in Indonesia
Indonesia is a country that is governed and run by a Democratic form of government. In this type of government, the citizens have the power to have their voice heard by the people of the higher authority. This means that the population has the power to choose who should be the leader of their country. Unlike monarchy and authoritarianism, democracy gives freedom towards its citizens to speak out and branch out about just what they are feeling. In Indonesia particularly, the democratic government has the responsibility to listen and also give rules to its people.
This power of freedom of speech and expression that is held by the people can become a great playing field for the subject of public relations. Public relations can actually both benefit and also give negative impact towards the teachings and process of a democratic society. By using some tricks and trades of public relations, the society is easily to be manipulated by the government if they choose to create propaganda and feed it to the public. The method of feeding the information out to the masses would most likely involve public relation practitioners. This would be due to the fact that the public relation subject has the ability to spread a message out to the mass public. Back to the subject of public relation in a democratic government, it has the actual ability to both improve and worsen the process of democracy itself. Like it has been stated before in this essay, it can give the government ability to create propaganda to the people just so they can continue on with their agenda setting. But on the other hand it also has the potential to improve communication between large and governmental organization and the public society of the organizations.
