Hello everyone,
The Internet of Things (IoT) has a tremendous potential of providing valuable information to consumers and utility providers and it is expected to grow to 50 billion connected devices by 2020. Within the IoT, devices across a variety of industries will be interconnected through the Internet and peer-to-peer connections as well as closed networks like those used in the smart grid infrastructure.
Smart Meters are an essential component of the smart grid infrastructure and in this demo we will observe how utility companies can leverage analytics for smart energy management.
This demo has been built over Teradata AppCenter and now we will launch it.

While the analysis is running I will open a previously run analysis.

[CLick on the outer circle to show the graph of the 20 smart meters]
As we can see, this is a single day's energy usage data of 20 consumers. The utility company wanted to identify the consumers who showed similar energy usage patterns so that they can target them with similar incentives to shift the peak load. As we can see that there are a high number of dimensions, so we use our Hierarchical KMeans algorithm to generate the clusters of similar usage pattern.
[Hover mose over the top view]
You can see this is the top view of the generated cluster.
The algorithm clusters similar usage at each level and then it further indentifies the clusters within those clusters upto a certain specified depth. We can see the different clusters that are formed. We can further drill-down into
