Role of Human Resource Department
It is imperative for the Human Resource (HR) Department to be involved immediately. Their strategy must align with that of the new organization. HR will need to re-evaluate staffing, training, employee orientation, and performance evaluation programs throughout the entire organization. The HR Department will also be responsible for creating and administering a transformation program associated to the change.
The HR Department will ensure job descriptions are updated/created to appropriately define each position affected by the change. Recruitment programs will be reviewed and adjusted as necessary to attract the best people to match these new job descriptions. This will be especially important within the newly created Program Management Office Directorate. Performance evaluations need to be modified to reflect accurate criteria based on the job descriptions and the new organizational structure.
Existing orientation, training, and employee development programs will be revised to support the new organizations’ structure. Planning and scheduling these modifications is required to ensure a smooth and orderly change implementation.
The HR Department will also administer a transformation program. This program needs to be specifically designed to create proper communication channels with employees and provide them with necessary coping tools. Employees may realize fear, anxiety, or stress as a result of the change and will require proper guidance to manage these issues. Communication will provide information to employees on what they can expect during the implementation process. Feedback from employees must be encouraged. Feedback will provide an indication of success and identify any necessary adjustments. Empowering the employees, with a means to provide their input, is essential to a successful organizational change.
