In this report, we will be talking about the two successful and outstanding managers. We will be covering the topics on Introduction to management & organizations, Foundation of planning, Foundations of organisational design, Leadership and Foundations of control. The managers are Sheila Lirio Marcelo and Terry O’Connor.

Managers Profile

First manager: Sheila Lirio Marcelo, CEO of Care.com. Sheila Lirio Marcelo is a Filipino-American entrepreneur and the founder of Care.com, a website which provides services to find caregivers.The website’s objective is to help families select child care, tutoring,housekeeping and etc. Pre Screened profiles, monitored messaging, background checks are shown on the websites as reference to their customers. Marcelo is one of the few female technology entrepreneurs to raise more than $35 million in venture capital funding.

Second manager: Terry O'Connor. He is the CEO of Courts Asia, the largest retailer of consumer electronics and home furnishing in the Southeast Asia region. In 1993, Terry was hired by Courts to spearhead its acceleration into the electrical retail market in Singapore. He became the CEO in 2007. This article mentions about Courts when it was at it’s worst and how Terry O’Connor brought it back to stability.

Why is the manager outstanding/successful?

According to the first article, Sheila Lirio Marcelo is the CEO and founder of Care.com.She is responsible for making organisation-wide decisions and establishing the goals and plans that affect the entire organisation.

Marcelo increase efficiency in managing her company by using technology as a medium to communicate with her employees such as email, text and Skype. This will help to save time and for the employees to find the work-life balance that works best for them.

Marcelo is also effective in managing the organization. She encourages employees to initiate one-on-one meetings
