Choose two misunderstandings you experienced and fill out the chart for these.

Respond to questions 1 and 2 shown under the chart for each example of a misunderstanding. In your response, include the following:

• Cite a meaningful misunderstanding rather than a general or less material misunderstanding.

• Use business- or work-related examples rather than personal ones.

Identify the roles of the sender and receiver, such as manager, peer, subordinate, client, vendor, and so forth

Who was the sender? Vickie the lady that I cleaned for or client in a health care agency

Who was the receiver? I was

What was the message? Email

What channel was used to send the message? Her email to mine

What was the misunderstanding that occurred? She thought that I was supposed to do more than

I was doing. She did not have the list that I had of what was supposed to be done and

What I was not supposed to do. So she sent me a very hateful email.

How could the misunderstanding have been avoided? This could have been avoided if she

would have read the packet that she was given and talked to me about the problem before

she sent the email.

What did you learn about the communication process from this activity? I knew a lot about the communication process because I try to use it in my everyday life to keep stress and drama down. I learned that using the process is very important and should be used. If you use the process and follow it there should not be an misunderstanding.
