Chapter Five Findings and Analysis

This chapter shows the findings of the questionnaire and the interview with the branch manager. The analysis will join together with the important findings and the research from the literature review in chapter three to generate conclusions as to the success of this research. In this chapter the researcher will display the demographic profile of the employees and will discuss the answers in relation to the research objective.

Initially, all the findings from the questionnaire have been analysed and quantified in order to present it way in which it is useful to Pettitt’s Supervalu. Secondly the author will use cross tabulation, for example this will be used to compare the younger and older employees’ views on motivation and comparing the long-term and the short-term employees’ opinions. The following graphs and charts were administered using SPSS after imputing data from the questionnaire conducted in Pettitt’s.

The researcher will out the demographics of this study such as age and length of employment. Following from this she will out the findings and analysis from questions one to eight which are connected to the Hackman and Oldham model. After which she will compare the variations with management and employee response. Finally, she will outline if any variables such age and length of employment effect motivation. The author has illustrated that Hackman and Oldham model to aid findings and analysis.

5.1 Demographics

The follow two questions are related to the demographics of the employees in the case the age range and length of employment in Pettitt’s.

5.1.1 Age range

This question was asked to discover what age range the employees were in and the author also felt it would be useful to compare responses from the older and younger staff.

As illustrated in figure 5.1 what are range are you in 19 employees are between 16 and 25, 21 employees are between 26 and 32 years, 33 employees are 33 to 45 years, 16 are 46 to 54 years and 11 employees are over 55 years.
