1. In what ways does Google motivate and reward its employees?
Google motivate its employees in many ways, during the orientation the ‘Nooglers’, what new employees at Google are known for, provided with comprehensive program covering the company’s value, philosophy and history and about the benefits and rewards they may eligible to receive while employed at Google. They also encouraged beginning networking with fellow employees as soon as possible and given tips to avoid common mistakes during their early months with the company. Not only that, in their daily basis, Google office’s environment visually and physically symbolizes its commitment to get the best from their people. Their approach is designed to create a culture of information sharing and collaboration and a sense of fun at work. With their mission “To organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful”, Google made their people believe that they are helping people around the globe to become more empowered and effective through the use of the tools that Google creates. Google’s US based headquarters conducts weekly ‘Thank God It’s Friday’ meetings in which everyone from founders to local executives can be quizzed by employees seeking to probe Google’s strategies and evaluate the company’s ongoing progress.
Nevertheless, Google also offers many rewards to its people for doing the best for the company and society. Every employee got the opportunity to spend 20 per cent of work time on projects of one’s choosing, with this approach, Google has witnessed the creation of products such as Google Earth, Google News and Gmail. Knowing that its employees often put in incredibly intense period of work, Google provides unlimited sick leave, generous health insurance, flexible working hours and reimbursement for educational expenses of up to $6000 per year. In addition, smaller incentives promote innovative and creative behaviors on a day-to-day basis.
