Report
Objective: This component of the course is intended for you develop your sensitivity to, and first-hand understanding of the operational aspects of a business and their relevance to various features of the final product like, quality, value, market-competitiveness etc..
What is expected: You are expected to conduct an in depth field study of the operations of a small business or medium sized business (or a product department of a large business) and generate a written report summarizing your findings in a comprehensive manner. It should be of such breadth and depth as to be of use to a potential buyer, investor or a business manager to gain a clear understanding of the potentials of the business, and how it can improve its operational competitiveness in the market. This report can be six to fifteen pages long (excluding the tables, charts, appendices and references)---you will not be rated for the quantity but for the quality of you your report. This report must be your own work and you will have to submit a signed statement indicating this fact.
The format of the report are as follows:
The report itself should be written using Times New Roman, 12 pt. fonts, maintaining the following: 1.0 inch left hand-side page margin, indented paragraphs, consistently numbered sections, double-spaced lines and page numbers appearing centered at the bottom of the page.
(1) Front page: Your report will have a front-page where the text will be centered and structured as follows. At the top will be title of the report printed in 20 pt. font-size, followed by your name (14-16 pt font-size); in the middle will be printed "Summer 2012" (18 pt. font-size) followed on the next line by "in partial fulfillment of the course requirements for Mgmt 355" , followed on the next line by the instructor's name (in all, three lines in the middle); at the bottom of the page, the following will be printed: "School of Business, SUNY Geneseo" (18 pt font-size)
