Introduction
When working in a group, there are many complications that may occur when a group member have different beliefs, values, or even different perceptions. Having a team that can function as a whole is the key to productivity in the workplace.
Sam and Megan are the two new operation managers to a big manufacturing company. They and two senior operation managers, Frank and Gerry, report to one general manager and form the management team. Both Sam and Megan are new to the role, and they are asking lots of questions in regards to the new found position. Frank and Gerry think that the new junior managers are not a good fit, as they consider Megan to be disrespectful due to her questioning of every detail. Megan claims that she is trying to learn and she is being discouraged by Frank and Gerry’s “ grouchiness” and lack of interest. Sam has been away for sick and Megan has stopped participating in meetings and work functions.
Team performance is unsatisfactory and work has come to a standstill. Todd, the General Manager, has approached to Organizational Development Consultant for a solution.
Statement of Problem
The underperformance and dysfunctioning of the management team caused by wrong perceptions and different personalities has been a serious problem that the car manufacturing factory is facing since the two new branch managers came on board. The management team is not working properly. Team meetings are not productive, team members hold unfavorable perceptions against each other. The workplace hostility between junior and senior managers have seriously affected their working performance, job productivity and job satisfaction.
An action plan is needed for team members to acknowledge and respect different personalities and approaches . Team members should compliment each others’ strength , experience
