Elevator Pitch
Four people were trapped in an elevator together, all almost oblivious to each other up until the elevator door closed. Myself and my mother, my mother was on a mad-dash to get out of the house from her soon to be ex-husband, a random which I assumed to be an employee, and my secret ex-girlfriend that I had no idea why she was there. It was a bleak, stormy night at the DaysInn Hotel for the last two hours and not many customers going in or out besides the four unfortunates. All I wanted to do was get to our room and out of sight.
I see my ex-girlfriend coming from down the hall, and i'm trying to get the doors to close as fast as I can. Abruptly, my mom reaches out, stopping the doors to the elevator and usher her in.
She shows her acknowledgment, “Thank you, ma’am.” No! Why did she have to do that, I thought to myself. Whatever, it was just a few floors. What could possibly go wrong. The elevator started to rise towards the 17th floor and everything was going surprisingly well. I should probably knock on some wood, I thought jokingly. Then the elevator stopped.
Suddenly from across the elevator, my ex-girlfriend bursts out, “Are you kidding!? Now i'm going to be late for my date.” Why in the heck was she already seeing another guy, I reflected in disbelief.
Suddenly out of pure rage I flared remotely, “Are you kidding? We just broke up a couple months ago and you're already dating again. Did you even care at all?” Now realizing what I had yelled, I slowly focused my attention towards my mother who wasn't aware of me having a girlfriend.
With my mother being the way she is, she puts herself right into the conflict and attempts to resolve what was already broken.
First telling me, “I understand that you were scared to admit you could get a girlfriend but you shouldn't have hid that from me.” Now blushing, she continues, “because i'm proud of you.” And for some reason she seemed very forward with what she had to say, almost like she already knew. But anyways, back to the point.
