Executive Summary
Rich-Con's management system implementation has quickly caused many problems throughout
the company. They are losing money and customers. The company's President must make a
decision whether to work through the issues with the new system or to revert back to the old
system.
The old system in place was on computers that are no longer manufactured. These computers
frequently broke and could only be replaced from scrapped parts from old machines. The
software in place consisted of many custom codes fit for Rich-Con's unique distribution needs.
However, it was unable to handle processing orders. This process was done on paper. Because of
this, the company had no historical information on its performance.
Prior to implementing the new management system, the President had invested in a UNIX
system that never made it to implementation. When she looked for a new system, it was
important to find one that fit the new invested technology. The president found a commercially
available option that met most of the company's unique needs. She did not hire any consultants,
relying on the customer service support provided by the company. This support did not match the
