A database management system (DBMS) is a tool, which is used in many different applications. Tech-FAQ defined a database, as "a database is a structured collection of records or data that is stored in a computer system" (Tech-FAQ, 2010). Within the database system there are four elements such as the user database application, the DBMS, and the database. A database application is a program that is a mediator between the user and the DBMS. Allowing data to be viewed in forms and reports (Kroenke and Auer, 2010). Honey Skateboards uses QuickBooks as a database application that provides the company with managing tools to maintain data in numerous data models. The application has help improve efficiency and it has reduced errors within company database. This software is important for manufacturers in many different industries, not just longboards. The programs allows Honey to have a firms grasp on the finances and their inventory, which keeps the company running smoothly. The program offers many useful tools such as instant updates to the company's inventory records to automatically reordering materials before they run out, which will prevent production adjournments. In addition, the ability to create invoices and bills quickly no matter how many customers Honey provides business to help, which reduces unpaid customer accounts tremendously.

Within the database there are a set of rules that describes the organization of all the database items and how they cohere together. This is described as the database architecture, which is a "set of specifications, rules, and processes that dictate how data is stored in a database and how data is accessed by components of a system" (Wingenious Inc, 2005). QuickBooks is built on a Structured Query Language (SQL), which is type of language designed to communicate with the database to manage data in relational database management system or RDBMS.
