It is vital to be true to yourself and your own personality within the workplace. Typically when candidates are hired, they are hired because they conveyed a personally trait that presented itself as a competitive advantage over the other candidates. Being true to who you are can enable you to maintain your competitive advantage in the organization, because you will feel more comfortable. You will then be more intrigued to learning new concepts quickly, and will be able to adapt to various situations and circumstances more efficiently. It is vital that you choose an environment that you feel comfortable working in and feel comfortable complying with the rules. Life is too short to work somewhere that makes you feel miserable and uncomfortable.

In the instance that you feel an obvious disconnection between yourself and your work environment, you may want to seek other options of employment. If you ever feel that your conscience is telling you to resign your position, it is most likely the best option for you to be truly happy and perform at your highest level. Be sure to do your research and attempt to focus primarily on open positions that will not only satisfy you economically, but mentally as well. Seek positions that exercise your valuable skills, and implement things you enjoy. If you’re doing a job you love doing, you will excel, and the money, opportunity, and power will follow. Take your time in making the correct decision for yourself, do not act out of impulse, you want to be sure your new job assists you in achieving your goals and offers room for growth and advancement.  Learn the basics of your job and seek out additional training whenever applicable, this will boost your confidence in your performance.

Some of the discerning feelings you may have regarding your employer may be due to you losing sight of who you are and what are your goals. In many instances, employees fall in the shadows of others due to shyness and insecurities. Don’t ever be afraid to speak up and allow your voice to be heard in the workplace, that is the only way anyone will ever become to know who you truly are. Build relationships within the workplace and do not be objective to socializing. When getting to know others be open and talk about things that make you unique. Your personal life should never be infused into the workplace, be sure to keep all things personal, private. The more things you keep private, the less wrong impressions you will have to face in the future.  Do not waste opportunities to network, they could lead to advancement. There is a time for working, and there is a time for socializing, utilize both. Be sure that your mind is always on your task while performing in the workplace, do your best to not get sidetracked. The results of focusing on the wrong things always conclude in unsatisfactory results. It is okay if you are having a challenging day, or have personal issues that may distract you, but do you best to maintain professionalism and keep your mind on the task at hand. Do not submerge who you are because you are feeling overwhelmed or emotional, gather yourself and take on all task with force and confidence. In order to maintain authenticity and originality, you must first understand what your competitive strengths and weaknesses are, once you identify and understand them, you can then proceed to what will be the next steps for improving.
