An entrepreneur, lawyer, professional, legislator, major, president of the United States Conference of Mayors, and currently Chief Executive Officer of the largest civil rights organization, The National Urban League, Marc Morial is a an amazing leader to many young Americans who aspire to be someone of good caliber in this world. Born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, Marc Morial’s resume goes on and on and highlights his many milestones and accomplishments in his life, which has spanned approximately 25 years professionally. As the president and Chief Executive Officer of the National Urban League, Marc Morial uses his innovative, skilled, and energetic leadership skills to change and transform a 100-year old organization into the 21st century, which bridges the gaps for Blacks and White Americans economically.
Marc Morial is considered as a modern day Renaissance man who is leading an organization that works to improve education, jobs, housing, and health for urban communities across the country by motivating, empowering, and inspiring people to move and ignite a movement for social change across the United States. Marc Morial’s leadership style is definitive of how his drive, success for self and others shapes everything he is involves himself with from a positive perspective. His self-confidence, integrity, and knowledge of his cause enable him to commit and perform his many roles with excellence and passion. In this paper, I will discuss the many hats and talents that Morial has and how his corporate success and challenges shaped him into the businessman he is today.
As an adventurous 15-year old, Marc Morial started a janitorial company with two friends (The National Urban League, 2012). He also launched several other business initiatives, which demonstrated his propensity to be a leader who is innovative and business that made him a successful entrepreneur. As a lawyer, Marc Morial argued and won a case in front of the Louisiana Supreme court at age 26, and taught Constitutional and Business Law at Xavier University of New Orleans (The National Urban League, 2012) as a professor. He authored laws of various subjects as a Louisiana State Senator and became a recipient of awards that showcased his exceptional works. With an approval rate of 70% from a diverse group of people, Morial because Mayor of New Orleans and frivolously led a brigade to build a city that grew its economy over the next 20 years (The National Urban League, 2012). Although he has received accolades of various fashions, Mr. Morial like numerous leaders has experienced his share of challenges that stems from a personal and professional perspective.
