Emotional Intelligence. It refers to the ability or capacity to identify, assess, and manage the emotions of one’s self, and others. Emotional Intelligence can be further break down into five quotients, which are Intrapersonal EQ, Interpersonal EQ, Stress management EQ, Adaptability EQ and General mood EQ which is shown in fig.1. Fig.1
Reasons for Selection:
This year is a transiting year to me. I have many new tries in my life. I have participle in Cityu’s Aquatic Club, joining many large scale competitions, and meeting many new people in all disciplines. These activities colors my life but at the same time adding pressure to me. There are always conflicts between my working partners and problem for me to handle the stuff happened simultaneously. This give me a feeling of failure and make me feel depress all of the time. I started to realize that EQ is getting more critical to my personal success.
2. Application of theories
The Emotional Competence Frameworks
After investigating the EQ issue, I have picked the emotional competence framework as a reference for me to learn and plan the way to improve my EQ.
The framework has two parts, the personal competence and the social competence. It is about how we manage ourselves and how we handle relationship.
For the personal competence, it further divided into two parts. First of all, we have to recognise our internal states, preference and thoughts so as to gain our emotional awareness and self-confidence by self- awareness. Then, we have to manage our internal state of a step called self-management. It can be achieve by adaption to working environment and practice self-control. The third component goes to motivation which helps us reaching goal by commitment and guidance.
