The demographic transition model was developed by demographers to show how the population was years ago and how it is now. It also shows how and why there are different types of population spikes in different places of the world.

Phase 1 was high fluctuating. The birth rate was high due to lack of family planning and the death rates was high due to high disease levels.

Phase 2 still had high birth rates, however, the death rates was falling off. This was due in part to better health care, for one reason.

Phase 3 birth rate starts to fall and the death rate continues to fall. The population is rising. This is due in part to family planning now being offered.

Phase 4 the birth rate and the death rate are now steady which has the population steady.

The four factors that led to a decline of the crude death rates in phase 2 are better health care, better hygiene, better sanitation, and better food production and storage. The four factors that led to the decline of the crude birth rates in phase 3 are family planning, lower infant mortality rates, increased standard of living, and the changing status of women in society.

The United States is at stage 4 with the birth rate low due to the options of birth control available. The death rate is low due to the standard of health care that is available in our country.

The United Nations would be a good program to help developing countries improve all the problems listed here.
