INTRODUCTION

On Wednesday, 6 May 2015, our company Hanan MLY Sdn Bhd had loaded 14 containers stuffed with cooking sunflower oil packed in consumer packs at Port of Tanjung Pelepas, Johor into a vessel named Ever Shine – a ship owned by Evergreen Marine Corporation with call sign of MJKZ4, IMO 9300386 and MMSI 235009240. Eventually, a total of 6 containers out of 14 were accidentally dropped into the water and later stored at the leakage area at the port altogether with the 8 unaffected containers that were also offloaded from the ship.

Due to this particular issue, which is the accident, many problems have arisen and one of them was how we solve the difficulties relating to the cooking oil involved.

Hence, in this report, we will include the steps we opted to take in order to resolve this particular issue. Other than that, we will give reasons of why we trusted the shipping line that was responsible to carry our goods and why we chose Port of Tanjung Pelepas instead of other ports.

COMPANY BACKGROUND

Hanan MLY Sdn Bhd was founded in March 2009 by a multi-billionaire, Tan Sri Hanan Edrus and his successful businessman partner Dato’ Hafizuddin Hanip to expand their wings in the business trading industry. This company mainly act as a manufacturer for daily needs such as sugar, salt and cooking oil. Furthermore, Hanan MLY also acts as a major supplier of those goods to some big retailers in Malaysia including Giant, Tesco and Aeon. This business operated mainly in Johor Bahru – the same place where its headquarters and factory are located and that briefly explains why the company chose Port of Tanjung Pelepas instead of other ports, because of the distance between the company’s factory and the port which is only a stone thrown away.

As stated before, there are a number of issues arises due to the accident. Thus, this research is done to find and explain what measures that we intend to take in order to resolve the issues.
