The renewable resources have becoming more and more important within the power generation sources, specially the electric power. Brasil has a great potential for this tipe of energy generation. In this conclusion work aimed scale theoretically an autonomous system to capture and store photovoltaic solar energy for residential electricity supply for a family with tree people in Santa Cruz do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Solar radiation data in the region were collected among the years 2004 to 2011 in the metrological station located on the campus of the Santa Cruz do Sul University. The design was done through literature review.
Were investigated different proposals for the dimensioning and implemented the simulation of the system designed using the software: PV-SIZE, purchased and available on the website UFRGS, Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. The generation of electricity by the light happens through use of photosensitive cells called solar cells, grouped into modules that make up the photovoltaic panels. A system made by the solar panel, charge controller, battery and accessories, is called as photovoltaic generators. In tropical countries like Brazil, the use of solar energy is viable in almost all the territory because in places far from downtowns of energy production or in remote places in country side has difficult acess to usual power systems and the installation of in a small scale does not require huge investments in transmission lines. Nowadays solar panels are increasingly more powerful while their cost is declining. This makes it increasingly more solar energy an economically viable solution. The equipment can be a way to prevent environmental impacts, if it’s correctly dimensioned.
