I have been learning about the importance of mission statements and how to effectively create one. A mission statement is an official summary of the goals and values of a company. Every company should and needs to have a mission statement. I learnt the significance of having a clear, to the point statement since this is understood easier by employees and consumers. When employees can visibly understand their mission statement, work can become more effective and reachable. Long, fancy worded, mission statements are unnecessary because they create confusion and haziness for employees to complete the company’s goals. Johnson and Johnson was a great example of a clear, to the point mission statement that hasn’t been changed since it was written during World War II. Through my own research, I found Tesla’s mission statement to be short and purposeful.

An additional topic I learn about was consumer social responsibility (CSR). CSR is an organizations initiative to consider and take responsibility for the company's effects on environmental and social wellbeing. Some companies have better CSR ratings and this can be a big influence of their company’s image. It has evolved from the ever-growing demand of the public to create better workplaces for employees and to prevent harm to the environment while a company operates. In modern times, when a company creates an environmental disaster such as an oil spill, it is expected that the company cleans up their damage, receives a hefty fine, and then implements a selfless gesture to promote their hurt reputation. Managers now days embrace a triple bottom line that comprises of people, planet, and profit concept.
