Competition Strategy

Conflict is created in an attempt to outdo the other individual or group.  Short term outcome.

The losing side may feel regret or envy towards the winning side.  Solutions are created at the expense of others.

Accommodation Strategy

High on cooperation.  Allows the ability to view the situation from different points of view.

Low on assertiveness.  

Compromise Strategy

It allows team members to consider others

Team members will have to give up something.

Avoidance Strategy

Allows for team members to cool down.  Avoids disruption.  

No assertiveness.  No cooperation.  

Collaboration Strategy

The ability to solve the issue.  Builds relationships between team members.  Team members share the responsibility of the resolution.

Very time consuming to ensure everyone agrees on the solution.  Time constraints may not allow the team to agree on the solution.

  1. Which of the available conflict management strategies is most appropriate for the current situation with David and James? Provide your rationale, including what factors you considered in making your selection. Your response should be at least 100 words.

The recommendation on the conflict management strategy to use with David Nguyen and James Deal would be the collaborating strategy.  David and James are both highly praised on their evaluations and are very good employees.  By having them collaborate and work together to obtain the organizations goals will ensure they can work together and learn to put aside their differences in order for them to come up with a solution to the issues.  Teamwork takes time to build and by them learning to understand each other’s point of view will help them work through and hopefully resolve the issues they have.
