The Management Planning of Tyco
Management planning is a major function in the planning process. For any business or organization, the decision-making or planning process is a vital key to its success. This could not be truer for Tyco International. Tyco International, founded in 1960 by Arthur J. Rosenburg, Ph.D., was originally created as a research laboratory to manage experimental U.S. government projects. The business was incorporated as Tyco Laboratories in 1962, and its focus turned to high-tech materials science and energy conversion products for the commercial sector (Tyco International Ltd, n.d.). After becoming a publicly owned company in 1964, Tyco decided to switch to manufacturing industrial products after acquiring other manufacturing companies in 1965. Today, Tyco International is one of the leading manufacturing companies in the world, providing products and services to customer in over 60 countries, and has more than 100,000 employees worldwide. This paper will evaluate the management planning function of Tyco International and how legal issues, ethics, and corporate social responsibilities influence their management planning. It will also analyze three factors of Tyco International’s strategic, tactical, operational, and contingency plan.
