In his article, The Effect of Using Visual Aids in Teaching Volleyball Skills to Physical Education Students, Mo'een Ahmad Oudat, a teacher at The Hashemite University, describes his investigations regarding the theme of using visual aids in physical activities and games. Basically, 30 students were involved in this experiment. The professor divided them into two groups, namely the experimental and the control. Obviously, the first team was taught with a resort to the visual aids whereas the other one was educated with the traditional techniques. Overall, the teacher highly appreciated visual aids due to the fact that its use dramatically increased the students’ performance in volleyball.
Mo'een begins his analysis with the introduction of the instructional media which is exceptionally valuable in the teaching process. The author provides general information about the subject of the media, claiming that it has been the talk of educational researchers. Mainly, he states that the instructional media is essential because it is a helpful means of education. Next, the author resorts to the works of other researchers, defining this media as the tools used by the instructor with the aim of advancing the teaching process (Ahmad 4). The author emphasizes the use of the advanced teaching methods stating that the curriculum is constantly changing and thus, should be supplied by enhanced methods. He refers to Abimbade, who stated that videotapes are advantageous because they offer flexibility and accessibility(47). Therefore, visual aids are proven to be a beneficial way of preserving time and enhancing students' performance.
Oudat informs that the instructional media consists of three groups, including visual aids, hearing aids, and the combination of both. In fact, visual aids include videotapes, films, television shows, images, posters, figures, and the list goes on. As a matter of the fact, volleyball, according to the author, is among the games in which visual aids demonstrate a terrific success. Lastly, it should be noted that the city of Jordan never experienced the use of this media. Naturally, it is an incredible idea to conduct the above-mentioned experiment in this particular city.
The author dwells on the issue of the teaching process and aids. He believes that teaching is only possible if there occurs communication between a teacher and a student. Besides, teaching aids are a powerful tool is assisting the educational process. They can also be used for students’ motivation in the classroom.
