• Describe the importance of note taking particularly in establishing the integrity of the crime scene.
Note taking is very useful because it’s the first use of documentation that officers use to record information about a crime. If officers didn’t take notes than the investigation may fail because there isn’t any important documentation about the crime if they decided to investigate later once the crime has been reviewed already. If policemen took accurate notes it would lead to a more successful investigation. Doing incomplete documentation can cause important information or evidence in the case go unrecognized. Notes are used to complete reports and sketches, recording a lot of information on file can make a huge difference in a case for instant, if an individual forget to state the criminal had a seeable scar and doesn’t mention this in the state it can cause the suspect to beat his or her case. Taking notes can also come in handy when questioning a witness. To make sure the statement that is given by a witness is accurate the officer should require the witness to reread and sign the document. When taking notes you should record important general information such as the time, date, and location. You should also try to answer who? What? When? Where? How? Why? Notes are vitally important in court because they can help discredit a suspect or witness’s testimony (Orthmann & Hess, 2013).

Digital photography is a file that can easily be uploaded and attached to an email which allows the process of the investigation to speed up and gain more important information.
