Stress is an unpleasant state of emotional and physiological arousal that people experience in situations that they perceive as dangerous or threatening to their well-being. Stress is a psychological condition that prepares us to adapt to hostile environmental conditions. Stress not only affects certain people, it affects everyone. Not all stress is bad stress. Eustress is the good stress and distress is the bad. Eustress is stress that arises from the demand of pleasant activities. Distress is stress we experience in regard to negative demands to which we must adapt. Stress is a common experience and can be controlled by learning what causes it.
Stressors include any environmental conditions that place a physical or emotional demand on a person. Environmental, organizational, and individual factors are potential sources of stress. Environmental influences stress levels among employees in an organization. Harassment is one of the main causes of workplace stress.
