If someone went around a high school and took a survey to see how many students did their homework the previous night it may result in about seventy percent of people saying that they did. However, if someone went around a high school and asked how many people went on Twitter or Instagram last night, the survey would more than likely report that about ninety five percent of students had been on either of these social media websites the previous night. Similarly, if one surveyed high school students to ask how much time in the spring and summer they spent outside playing and how much time they spent on their phone commenting on someone's post on Instagram, I'm sure the results of the second question would be much higher than those of the first. But fear not, these students will assure a plethora of times that they will get into the most prestigious colleges there are. I mean, why not, they do study day in and day out.

Besides, without Instagram and Twitter how would they all have known that Sarah gave her dog a bath and 8:04 last night? Or where Kelly got her nails done? Sure doing their homework might get them an ''A" on the exam, but that "A" is not going to help them make friends in the future, no matter that it will get them into college. Let's face it, without Jake liking Stacey's picture on Instagram how would she ever know that he had a crush on her? This is the only way teenagers know how to socialize nowadays. Go into a room full of teenagers that don't know each other and it will be completely silent with everyone looking down at a device in their hands. Go into a room full of teenagers that know each other and all you will see is a bunch of people talking about "posts" or "blogs" or "comments" on their pictures, but never the colleges they're applying to or the amount of time they were up studying.

Moreover, it is understandable that someone's Instagram page or there Twitter feed is one's identity. This is why so many people cannot put their phone's down for one second; they are just trying to get closer to their peers without having to socialize, duh. Why read a book about someone who lived a few hundred years ago when you can stalk your peer's Instagram page and find out their deepest darkest secrets without them knowing?
