Administrative Interview
The person I chose to interview is my nurse manager Anita. She is the manager of the Gastroenterology Endoscopy Suite better known as the GI Endo Suite at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Anita started as a nurse in GI, then moved up to the charge nurse and eventually settled down as the nurse manager. In the endoscopy suite there are a variety of procedures, studies and infusion treatments. The GI Endo Suite performs endoscopies, colonoscopies, and motility studies such as anorectal manometry or esophageal manometry. The GI Endo Suite always offers infusion treatments such as remicade, vedolizumab and iron sucrose for children diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease, Colitis and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).
The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia strives to be the world leader in the advancement of healthcare for children by integrating excellent patient care, innovative research and quality professional education into all of its programs (The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, 2016). The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia takes pride in their commitment to finding cures for diseases and illnesses that affect children around the world. The hospital focuses on family centered care and has accommodations for families of all religious backgrounds. The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia serves a very diverse community of people coming from all over the world with different backgrounds and religions. The hospital also offers education to staff about a variety of cultures and beliefs to ensure staff is respectful ay all times.
Through interviewing Anita, I learned that the mission of The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia plays a pivotal part in her decision making with the staff and patients. Working for a health care facility that is internationally known and respected, Anita takes pride in making sure our staff is educated and dedicated to delivering the best care possible. She tends to place herself in the patients shoes a lot when figuring out situations that are difficult. This is where understanding people as a whole come into play. Knowing where people are from and relating to them and their personality is key. We have a lot of Muslim families that prefer female doctors and nurses for their daughters or female relatives. Because of this know beliefs Anita makes sure staff is also knowledgeable and prepared so when families come they already have female caretakers so there is no added pressure of being upset or any delay in patient care because in many circumstances the family can refuse care. Anita’s positive understanding has a great impact on families and colleagues because everyone feels respected and feels like she cares. She leads by example, which also sets a high standard for everyone else to try and match. Employees and patients that have to meet her because of her welcoming nature love her.
