Diversity Training Plan
Diversity training is a training that is provided to employees at their workplace in order to inform the employees of their civil rights as well as to educate employees on cultural differences in the workplace to ensure inclusion of more cultural groups. Diversity training is very beneficial because in the workplace it promotes teamwork and trains employees to be respectful of one another differences. As an HR manager I will be creating training for all the front line supervisors to present to their employees.
Exercises, Roles, and Activities
In an organization employees learn in many different ways as well as instructors teach in many different ways. The goal of the training is for all the employees to fully understand the importance of accepting diversity in the workplace. Training can be done by performing different exercises, role-playing or enhanced activities. One exercise that can be done is reading through a training manual about different diversity situations followed by having the reader write a response on how they would handle the situation. The instructor would then provide the actual response on how to handle this situation as well as provide feedback on the different responses the readers wrote. Next another exercise that can be done is an employee can show different tutorials on diversity on the projector so the employees can see first hand what a situation dealing with diversity really looks like. Looking at a visual and listening is a very important exercise to cover in training because employees will have a better understanding of how to handle diversity.
Role-playing is going to be part of the training so that employees can participate first-hand in situations that are real. In this training volunteers will be asked to read a script and role-play the different diversity situations and the instructor will point out at what point the employee is encountering diversity and what steps the employee is taking to handle diversity. The instructor is going to focus on the importance of inclusion on the different types of cultural and social groups that may be part of a company.
Application of Social Learning Theory and Adult Learning Theory
There are two fundamental assumptions when it comes to social learning theory. The first assumption is that the behavior of a person is influenced by the environment, which comes from learning activities brought on by modes of observation and also modeling. The behavior of the person depends on the opinion of a person towards the rewards and reinforcements that were made during the training on diversity. This assumption confirms that behaviors and attitudes of the employees are met. There are four stages that must be met which are paying attention, retaining the information learned, reproduction and motivation of the workforce. The second assumption looks at the cognitive factors, which are the ability to have a good memory and also to think correctly. These abilities are observed during various responses made during the time the employee is in training. Although the employee attends the training whatever they learn will take time to be incorporated on a daily basis by the employee. The theory here is that rolls, exercises and activities that are conducted in training programs are leaned through the experiences, which the employee will actually face.
