Prepared by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), this National Report Card on Healthy Aging analyzes 15 indicators of older adult health. These indicators include Health Status, Health Behaviors, Preventive Care and Screening, and Injuries and each is characterized as meeting or failing to meet satisfactory scores as delineated by Healthy People 2020 targets. As a greater portion of the U.S. population are living past the age of 65, the identified indicators provide critical guidance on required areas of improvement necessary to meet the challenge and aid the elderly to live longer with dignity and comfort which is included in the topic of the proposed paper for this course.
Clark, M., Lim, J., Tewolde, G., & Jaerock, K. (2015). Affordable Remote Health
Monitoring System for the Elderly Using Smart Mobile Device. Sensors &
Transducers (1726-5479), 184(1), 77-83.
In this paper, the authors, who are members of the researcher faculty of the Kettering University in Flint, Michigan examine the potential impact of remote health monitoring systems on the availability, effectiveness and cost of care for the elderly particularly within the context of increasing life expectancy and growing numbers of seniors. Recognizing that the greater than 11 million seniors who live alone in the U.S. May experience significant negative consequences from emergency situations, the authors examine the potential efficacy of affordable remote health-monitoring systems and remote communication which uses cellular telephone services to assist seniors to live alone more safely and to request assistance as needed to maintain their health. As home health care generally is more affordable than institutional care, the use of such technologies may serve a pivotal role in the elderly maintaining health, accessing services and maintaining quality of life. Accordingly, the subject matter of this paper is integrally related to the proposed topic, as it provides alternative, innovative, effective and affordable approaches to addressing the needs of the elderly.

further, theory-based study aimed at creating policies and practices to promote health and resilience among at-risk, aging cohorts. Consistent with the intent of the proposed paper's topic for this course, this paper provides potential avenues for continued research and other efforts to continually evaluate and improve the care available for our aging population.
