This is from the play Ruby Moon.

What do we learn from sylvies visit to sonny jim and rays visit to dawn about the couple? Identify a key moment from each scene and explain how the use of the dramatic elements create audience engagement.

We learn many things from Sylvie’s visit to Sonny Jim’s house. The first thing we learn is through the use of the character Sonny Jim and his relation to Ray. If this scene is in fact fiction, we are able to analysis some recognition in some cryptic feelings and emotions that Ray may possibly be experiencing. The wounded solider image creates a sense of lost protection, some authority that has been forgotten, perhaps how Ray feels responsible for the loss of Ruby, and how he feels it is his own fault for not being able to protect his own family. This is evident in the line “In a world shot to hell, one man will stand alone to fight for freedom....In the land that time forgot, a hero will rise...In a city under siege, where was justice...?Right Here.’’ It shows how he felt that he should have been the hero in such a dark situation, for both Ruby and Slyvie.

Scene eight is an image of Sylvie’s insecurities that are hidden secret from Ray. In this scene, the key moment is Dawn’s small monologue, where she states “Look at her pretty little pixie nose. That’s how I’ll have mine done.” This shows that she has jealousy for Ruby, and her attributes. This addresses to the audience a new mystery, that Sylvie was quite possibly jealous from the attention that Ray gave her, which posses a question of whether her love to her was true, and perhaps could be the one who was the result of Ruby’s disappearance.
